Does it really matter what kind of shampoo one uses?

I know conditioner can make a big difference but I have heard shampoo doesn't matter. So why not just buy the cheapest one like suave?Does it really matter what kind of shampoo one uses?
Shampoo DOES matter!! The ph levels (aka: acid) in shampoo and conditioner vary by type. You used to have to figure out the ph level you needed on your own but manufacturers have taken most of the guess work by labeling they type of hair they work best on.





In order to keep your hair managable and healthy choose a shampoo labeled for your specific hair type. i.e. dry, oily, normal...





I have sensitive skin which dries out easily and use Suave Professionals brand products for my hair type which is normal to dry. They're affordable and created to mimic the more expensive brands composition, like Matrix, Biolage, etc., using similar ingredients.





I cannot use the cheaper Suave products, V05, or White Rain because they tend to dry my scalp out and make my hair difficult to manage. Good luck!

all shampoos are not created equal. even professional salon shampoos can do some harm if they are not the right ones for your hair.


try to stay away from ammonium based shampoos. and steer towards sodium based instead. ammonium based shampoos will fade hair color and may cause split ends


try to keep it low on your list of ingredients. stay away from to much silicone. keep it low on your list.


salon shampoos like graham Webb are very good and some over the counter like mane and tail are good. it all depends on what your hair needs.

Yes indeed it does matter. You need a shampoo that is formulated for your exact hair-type. If you choose not to go to a salon for services as least do yourself a favor and pop in and ask a stylist what kind you should buy. They may even have it on site for sale. These products will of course cost a bit more that a drug store variety but to quote L'Oreal...';you're worth it';
I love suave or dove or tressame. They are all cheap.
I can tell a difference with my hair when I use salon quality vs. cheapo brands. My hair is very fine and if I use cheap stuff like Suave it leaves my hair limp and no body at all.
My husband is a chemist, and he says there is no chmical difference whatsoever from brand to brand.. Use the one that smells the best lol....
the price does not matter but the type for your hair does. Buy a cheaper brand and experiment with what works best for your hair type.


I cannot use VO5 but I can use Suave as long as it is for '; normal '; hair. Same with conditioners. Some work better than others for my hair type.





It just takes a little experimenting to find what works best for your hair. Ask your stylist to suggest the type shampoo ( not name brand ) and go from there.
i agree. i thinkn shampoos dont matter at all. all they do is clean your hair. sooooooo, i agree suave is a good idea.
shampoo does matter if you care about keeping your hair healthy. the lower the pH of a shampoo, the less damaging it is. clarifying shampoos have a higher pH because they are designed to get build-up out of hair which would not be possible without a higher pH. most professional shampoos (excluding clarifying and volumizing) have a pH of about 5 or 6 which is close to the hair (pH of 4.5-5), and therefore less damaging. drugstore shampoos can have a pH of up to 10, depending on the brand. if you must use a drugstore brand, use sauve. it has the lowest pH out of all of them. but you might want to also invest in a clarifying shampoo to use a few times a week.
i don't know. But some shampoos are different. Some strip color others are used for frizzy hair and others for curly hair. That may be why.
it does not matter. its just shampoo with the same chemical ingredients
umm well it doesnt if u have good genetics ...like not oily hair.. but if your hairs damged or colored u prolly should get the stuff that helps that type of hair.. but otherwises ur very very lucky to have hair that can use any type of shampoo.. so go for it .. good luck !
