As long as it's the same *type* of shampoo. The neutralizing shampoo comes with many relaxer kits, and this is what actually stops the perm from processing your hair when you wash it out. If you don't neutralize then the perm will continue to process and it could have adverse effects on your hair (ie: it could fall out from over-processing).When you perm African American hair, is it ok to use a different shampoo than the one in the relaxer kit?
You still need to neutralize your hair, which is the shampoo given, but then you can follow up with your fav moisturizing, bodifying, or whatever shampoo you prefer.
i used to first wash with the neutralizing shampoo that came with the pack but then i used a good smelling one to get that awful chemical smell out of my hair.
